Four University of Northampton students shortlisted for Pioneers of Care Awards

Four exceptional students from the University of Northampton’s School of Health have been shortlisted for this year’s Pioneers of Care Awards in the Inspirational Student Nurse category.

The prestigious awards, which celebrates and rewards trailblazing nurses who have gone out of their way to work effectively, efficiently and empathetically with their patients and have introduced new techniques to solve problems and help improve lives.

Annie Oliver, Jade Moss, Andria Robinson and Laura Yardley are in the shortlist for the Inspirational Student Nurse Category at this year’s Welch Allyn Pioneers of Care Awards.

Judge Dr Helen Griffiths, a Nurse Consultant, university lecturer, and member of the Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology, said,  “Although the awards have been running for a few years now this is the first time we’ve had an Inspirational Student Nurse category.

“It’s great compliment to the University of Northampton, and their nursing staff, to have found so many of their students making it into the shortlist.”

The Welch Allyn Pioneers of Care Awards are now in their third year and aim to celebrate the trailblazing efforts of nurses across the UK.

“It is all too easy to take nurses, and trainee nurses, for granted. By highlighting their pioneering work with patients and inspiring efforts while training, we can show just how much we owe them,’ explains Jan McMeekin, UK manager of sponsors Welch Allyn UK Ltd, whose expertise in frontline care stretches back almost 100 years.

Julia Nichols, Senior Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Northampton’s School of Health said: “Care and compassion are two qualities at the heart of the way the University of Northampton delivers Healthcare education. We are very proud that four of our students have made it on to the shortlist for the Pioneers of Care Awards, especially in the inaugural year of the Inspirational Student Category; this is testament to the professionalism and values of our students.”

The awards ceremony will take place on the 18 July at The Wellcome Collection in central London.​
