Date 16.11.2015

The University of Northampton’s Formula Student Racing Team has been named as one of the winners of Silverstone Park’s first Business Competition for budding innovators.

The Formula Student Team will now benefit from £1000, a hot desk license and business support at Silverstone Park’s Innovation Centre, helping them to develop and grow.

Student Jordan Smith, Team Manager for the Formula Student Northampton Racing squad, enthused: “We’re ecstatic – this is a major first for our team and means we can take the competition a lot more seriously. The fact we’ll be based at Silverstone Park which is full of innovators and engineers plus the business mentoring will make us much stronger in many departments such as design, business and cost and sustainability.”

Other winners included Electric motorbike manufacturer Meteor Power, motor sport website Racingist.com and automotive marketing specialist CMB Creative

Silverstone Park Commercial Director Roz Bird commented: “Our inaugural Business Competition has been a resounding success. I would like to thank very much all our judges for their time, input and encouragement towards each finalist.

“Similarly well done to all seven companies who each made a great impression during our final – we were bowled over by their presentations, their stories and the entrepreneurial flair they each demonstrated. Many congratulations of course to our four winners who we now look forward to working with and supporting in our Innovation Centre.

The four winners were selected after making presentations along with three more finalists before a judging panel of business experts in the Innovation Centre. The judges included MIA Chief Executive Officer Chris Aylett; South Northants Councillor and business mentor Kath Bonner-Dunham; University of Buckingham’s Programme Director, BSc Business Enterprise Nigel Adams; Barclays’ Large Corporate Relationship Director Richard Redman and Product Development & Sales Director with Torotrak Group Jon Hilton.
