How we consulted with our students
We consulted with various key stakeholders when we planned the interventions strategies identified below, that are designed to address our objectives and risks to equality of opportunity.
- Consistent Engagement:
- From the start, the Northampton Students’ Union (NSU) President, Vice President Education, and Vice President Welfare have been core members of our APP Operations Group.
- This group reports to the APP Steering Group, which includes the NSU Chief Executive and President.
- Their involvement has provided key insights into the student experience.
- Monthly Student Life Pulse Survey data has helped identify risks, create objectives, and develop intervention strategies.
- Student Equality Consultants Panel:
- In the 2023/24 academic year, we recruited a panel of 10 paid students from underrepresented backgrounds.
- Supported by our Access and Participation Manager and sponsored by NSU.
Consultants received in-depth training on the APP components, including the Theory of Change, student lifecycle data, and experiences of underrepresented students.
- Effective Communication:
- Interactions were mostly in group settings, with options for 1:1 feedback.
Communication via WhatsApp for interactive messaging, voice notes, and polls. - Meetings held online and in person at various times to accommodate schedules.

- Progressive Learning and Feedback:
- Consultants’ learning progressed alongside the APP development.
- Introduced to the EORR (Equality of Opportunity Risk Register) and provided insights, with feedback delivered to the APP Steering Group.

- Students will play a key role in evaluating the Plan and providing feedback on broader initiatives.
- Targeted recruitment to ensure a representative panel of the whole student body.
- We will provide support for co-creating a student feedback experience that meets their needs.
