    Description: The purpose of this module is to enable students to understand the importance of research and evidence based practice in social work. As part of achieving the above students will be expected to complete a secondary research project that entails the development of a research proposal. Students are to identify a specific practice issue of social work that they wish to investigate. Through the device of a research proposal students will be given the opportunity to critcally explore both the literature and empirical research in relation to their chosen topic. Building on the findings of their literature review, students will go on to devise their own research proposal which will set out the research question, the epistemological and ontological position taken and the subquent methodology to be applied. At each stage students are expecterd to justify the decisions that they have made in relation to their proposal. Additionally, students as part of their research proposal will provide details of analytical method to be employed.
