This is a research method in its own right, which involves locating, appraising and synthesising evidence from published research and other key primary sources to provide answers to research questions. The focus for the review must be relevant to the field of practice in which the student is registered. This process enables health professionals to find and assess the evidence base for best practice. Undertaking reviews of this literature will equip students with knowledge of a diverse range of research methods and other sources. In addition, an understanding of research methods is essential for any health professional wishing to progress to conducting their own research by data collection.
