What you need to know

If you’re a teacher or advisor supporting students who recently got their results and are unsure what they want to do this year or what their options are, here’s our guide to what to look for and find out about as the new term starts:

There are still options available

Our biggest piece of advice is simply that it is not too late. If university is something that you want to do, many universities are still accepting applications on a wide variety of courses. If you have all your results, then you can often get an offer of a place over the phone instantly.

All universities are prepared for students to start after the beginning of term, and you won’t have missed out on any part of your university experience if it takes a week or two to get going. Taking the time now to sort out your place can mean not having to wait for an entire year.

Clearing lines are still open

To find out what courses still have places, check our Clearing page or give us a call on 01604 214808 and we’ll be able to discuss your options.

Integrated Foundation Year

If you or your student’s grades were perhaps not as good as you’d hoped, and you’re looking at retakes or further level 3 qualifications, our advice is to look into Integrated Foundation Year options at universities. These are courses which have included a tailored first year experience to get you ready for university and your chosen course, however you’ve done at A Level. If you’re looking into retakes, give us a call and we can chat you through our Foundation programmes, you may not need to retake at all.

Finance and Progression

If you applied for student finance for this year, it’s simple to move it across to a new university or a new course. You can get funding for up to 4 years of study and can cover your Foundation year as well.

Once you’ve completed and passed your foundation year, there’s also no need to reapply in UCAS for your chosen BA or BSc degree, you’ll move on with your friends and colleagues, graduating at the same time as you would have if you’d taken a year out or retaken your exams.

Can I move into halls?

There’s still spaces in halls for the University of Northampton. We have a variety of rooms that you can move into, such as our Scholars Green Student Village.

So, if you or your student is still unsure as to their path for next year, give us a call to discuss how we can help them, there are options and whatever they want to accomplish, we can support them to that goal.
