How I reached out for support
Everyone at some point has found themselves struggling emotionally, including myself, and nothing helped me better than reaching out.
A couple of years ago, I was struggling to manage my mental health and as I result, I decided to talk to somebody I trusted about what I was struggling with, and it was the best decision I could’ve made at the time.
Through sharing my concerns, I felt supported and was advised to have a telephone consultation with my doctor too, who was able to give me the help that I needed.
How UON helped me
Here at the University of Northampton, I have also been able to receive support. I was able to find the team of professional Mental Health Advisers and Counsellors who offer emotional support through the website and chose to reach out. The counsellors offer up to six, short-term sessions in which no matter what you are struggling with, they are there to listen and provide support.
No concern is invalid and all people are met with equal support and aid should they require it. I was seeking a solution to issues rather than wanting somebody to speak to, and thus was directed to the Mental Health Advisers. They offered strategies and practical solutions, and I was granted an academic extension as a result. Other services the Mental Health Advisers offer include help for disabled students, finding NHS support and treatment, meeting with course leaders to discuss problems, and more.
