Frequently asked questions about Teach Out

  • Termination means there will be no new recruitment to a partnership after the specified date. Existing students will usually be taught by the partner for the duration of the programme. UON shall make appropriate arrangements with the partner to enable the continuation of delivery of the programme(s) and ensure that sufficient resources will be made available to allow students to complete a programme, either in their current location or at another appropriate location, where possible.

We refer to this period as ‘Teach Out’ and UON will regularly be in contact with the partner and all enrolled students to provide updates on the situation.

  • In most cases, your programme will continue as normal at your local institution. Where this is not possible, UON or your teaching institution will be in touch with you to give you options for you to complete your studies. You may be able to transfer to UON directly or another university or college to complete your studies and achieve an award.

If you are in a position where you cannot complete your studies in the standard timeframe, for example, if you have extenuating circumstances or are required to repeat modules, then you will be offered alternative arrangements to allow you to complete your studies, where possible. Options may include transferring to UON directly, transferring to an alternative provider, or taking an interim qualification based on the number of credits you have achieved.

  • The UON student records system will allow you to access your own record of study which you can use to transfer elsewhere, or you can use this at a later date if you decide you want to restart your studies. A formal transcript can be issued at any point to allow you to transfer to another provider.

  • If you find a suitable alternative provider, you are advised to contact them to see what the process is for applying for direct entry to a specific year of study, using your interim award. The alternative provider may need to map the modules studied with your UON award map to their programme to ensure you meet eligibility requirements for direct entry. UON can provide your award map and programme of study, if required.

  • For UK students who are accessing UK Student Loan funding only: If you transfer to another university or college to complete your course, they will agree the tuition fees for this with you and you will need to apply for your funding for the other university. If the change happens after you have applied for funding, you will need to wait for Student Finance to approve your funding and then you will be able to amend the university in your application by logging in to your Student Finance account and make a change to your application. If your funding is not approved until after the academic year has started your new university will need to complete a transfer change of circumstance to advise Student Finance where you are studying and you will need to provide your new university with a copy of the notification of entitlement letter issued by Student Finance for this to be actioned.

For more information, you will need to seek further guidance from your institution and Student Finance England/Wales/NI. The Student Loans Company has more information.

  • In most cases, during the Teach Out period, if you are eligible for a resit opportunity, this will be made available for you either with your partner provider or with UON directly.

  • In the first instance, please contact your teaching institution. Alternatively, you can contact UON at PartnerTeachOut@northampton.ac.uk. To help us deal with your query as quickly as possible, please include your full name, Student ID number and the name of the institution where you are studying.

  • Yes, any student who has successfully gained their full award will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony at UON in the UK.

  • Usually, transcripts and certificates are available 6 weeks after an Award and Status Board.
