Overview

This course is aimed at AHP support workers who are looking to develop and progress in their current role. The course aligns with the AHP Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework, NHS England, and will support AHP Support Workers to meet the standards set by the framework enabling a fulfilling career pathway.  In addition to individual career development, the upskilling of AHP Support Workers will hugely benefit registered professionals, employers and commissioners in providing higher standards of care for the UK population as it offers flexibility in meeting the needs of patients, clearer role definition and the ability to be able to delegate tasks in line with HCPC guidance and standards.

This flexible course can be accessed as a 5 day package or as stand alone days, allowing AHP Support workers to achieve a level of ‘Assistant Practitioner’ in one or more of the five competencies that make up the AHP Support Worker framework.

In addition to this unique CPD opportunity, we also offer a one-day course targeted at AHP Workers who will be supporting AHP Students.  Find information about our one-day CPD – Supporting The AHP Student further below.

Course Content

  • This CPD course is based on contemporary, clinical and educational evidence.  It is delivered in an engaging way by linking content, discussions and tasks relating to current professional practice and challenges.  During the 5 days, you will explore the wider health and social care system and how to support families and service users through their care.  You will identify communication approaches, develop an understanding of leadership and supervision and understand how this supports your own development and the development of others.

The 5 days are broken down into the following key competencies, which can be accessed as a complete 5 day package or individually, depending on the skills required:

Day One and Two: Supporting the Service User

Over two days, you will explore the current health and social care system and its services and the role of AHP Support Workers in supporting and advocating for patients within their enhanced scope of practice.

Day Three: Communication and Information Management

This day focuses on framing and developing communication approaches and information management.  You will explore concepts around communication to support shared decision making, assessing your obligations and the importance of record keeping.

    Day Four: Leadership and Management

This day will allow you to explore concepts of leadership, supervision and management and the practical application to your current role through supporting the development of others.

Day Five: Personal and Professional Behaviour

This final day will enable you to evaluate the professional and personal values inherent to your role, including the importance of feedback and reflection to support your own development and the development of others.

  • Based on the principles of leadership and management, this one-day course is aimed at AHP Support Workers who will be supporting AHP Students.

This course explores the concept of supervision and mentoring and the place of AHP Support Workers in supporting the learning of others through investigating theories of learning and how to translate into practice.
