Jayne Corfield’s work explores her interest in using a scientific approach to demonstrate possible links between science and art. Her research has parallels with the laboratory experiment. She has developed a ‘formula’ using equipment, (digital technologies, printmaking, photography, and microscopes) exploring objects, samples and specimens reaching its conclusion in a series of photo etchings.
Jayne’s work uses photo microscopy. Once specimens are obtained and prepared each image is captured and then scanned digitally and further explored. Jayne collects ‘samples’ and these then form the basis of her work.
Jayne is interested in microscopic imagery, making detailed observations through the microscope, and exploring this abstracted imagery through the medium of print. Fragments and memories inspire Jayne. In the laboratory fragments of the world are dissected, isolated, recombined, weighed, and watched. Merging the boundaries of art and science, her images convey the intricacy of the world we don’t see.
