Staff Profile

  • Rida Wahba is a lecturer and research lead in physiotherapy in the faculty of Health, Education and Society. Rida is a qualified neurological physiotherapist with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry and clinical field. Rida joined the University of Northampton in 2022 bringing to the university more than 8 years of clinical experience in acute care and stroke rehabilitation, and 7 years’ worth of experience lecturing in higher education institutions. Rida’s primary goal as an educator is to motivate students to seek knowledge, and to grow into critical thinkers able to master the art of their practice.

    Scholarships

    Rida was awarded the British Council Higher Education Scholarship Palestine (HESPAL) two times in 2012 and 2018 to pursue his MSc and PhD degrees in Physiotherapy in the UK, respectively.

    Achievements

    He established the physiotherapy programme and was responsible for the curriculum design of the physiotherapy programme at NNU. The programme was instituted in September 2015. In parallel, he had been working to establish the physiotherapy department at the teaching hospital along with the outpatient clinic.

  • Rida is interested in neurologic rehabilitation focusing on stroke rehabilitation and stroke survivors’ experiences and quality of life. His PhD research is focused on improving the quality of stroke survivors’ lives by improving attention and memory. The importance of his research is giving stroke survivors the opportunity to achieve greater mental independence which consequently may improve the quality of their lives.

    Rida is highly research-oriented and leads the Inquiry-Based Project module (dissertation project). In this capacity, he collaborates with staff members, providing guidance and supervision to students on their dissertation projects and enhancing their research skills. Rida demonstrates a keen interest in exploring emerging academic, professional, and research practices. He delivers active blended learning experiences, utilising both online and face-to-face teaching methods.

    He developed and produced digital materials for teaching research methods and academic writing along with assisting in delivering lectures that have a neurological basis. This includes tutorials, seminars and journal club sessions. Rida also leads and co-leads several modules and this includes monitoring physiotherapy placements as a visiting tutor as well as being a personal tutor.
