Staff Profile

  • In 2011, Rodrigo began his professional journey as an Adult and Paediatric Nurse at the University of Malaga, accumulating valuable expertise in elderly care, emergency medicine, and paediatrics. Subsequently, in 2015, he attained qualification as a Podiatrist from the same university, prompting a relocation to the UK to advance his career.

    With an extensive background spanning over 13 years, he has excelled as an Extended Scope of Practice Specialist Podiatrist, consistently prioritizing excellence in patient care.

    In 2022, he completed specialized training in skin and incisional nail surgery and also pursued a steroid injection course during the same year.

    At present, he holds the position of a Senior Lecturer in Podiatric Medicine at the University of Northampton, fulfilling responsibilities as a 1st-year tutor and module lead for human physiology and clinical studies, he actively shares his wealth of knowledge and practical insights with aspiring podiatrists.

    In 2023, he achieved a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy, acknowledging his contributions to shaping the future of podiatric professionals.

    With a primary focus on surgical interventions for issues such as ingrown toenails and skin pathologies, including procedures like surgical excision of verrucae, he draws on his past experience as a paediatric nurse to adeptly provide minor foot surgical treatments for apprehensive children and individuals with autism or learning disabilities.

    Continuing his educational journey, he is presently pursuing a Master’s in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery and is concurrently engaged in an ongoing independent prescribing course.

  • His current role is Senior Lecturer in Podiatric Medicine, he is a 1st-year tutor and module lead of human physiology and clinical studies 1. He provides dissertation supervision for Undergraduate and Master’s students. He also provides clinical supervision in the University teaching clinics for 1st, 2nd  and 3rd year students, assessing and treating a wide range of lower limb complaints.

  • Currently, he is actively engaged in research focused on the surgical excision of plantar verrucae and the integration of videos for Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) as part of a blended learning approach in podiatry.
