Significant changes are being made to the finance requirements for the Student Route Visa applicants which may impact you. Please carefully read the information below for details of these changes.

What is the finance requirement for a Student Route Visa?

The financial requirement is for student applicants to demonstrate they have enough funds to support themselves for each month of their course (up to nine months). To meet the financial requirements, you must have held the required minimum balance in your bank account for at least 28 days before you submit your application.

You must submit the visa application within 31 days of your bank document being issued. The submission date for your visa application is the date that you pay your application fee online.

It is important that you adhere to these terms as failing to do so could lead to a visa refusal.

What are the upcoming changes to the finance requirements for Student Route Visa applicants?

The financial requirement for Student Route Visa applicants will increase for all applicants who submit a Student Route Visa application from 2 January 2025 onwards. This means the amount of money you are required to show you have in your bank account when you apply for your visa is increasing from £1,023 per month to £1,136 per month. Please see below for the funds required for your visa application:

• Visa application submitted until 1 January 2025: £1,023 x9 = £9,207 (plus any unpaid tuition fees)
• Visa application submitted on or after 2 January 2025: £1,136 x9 = £10,224 (plus any unpaid tuition fees).

In summary, if you submit your visa application on any date from today until 1 January 2025, your visa application will be processed against the criteria specified in the first bullet point. If you apply on or after 2 January 2025, you will need to ensure you hold the funds specified in the second bullet point.

When should you apply for your Student Route Visa?

We advise that you apply for your visa as soon as you receive your CAS, as long as you can meet all the requirements for a Student Route Visa.
