Request a CAS

Students who require a Student visa will need a valid CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) in order to make a Student Visa application. The CAS is an electronic document that confirms that we are willing to act as your sponsor for your studies in the UK. You only require the CAS reference number however we will generate a document which is called a CAS statement.

Your CAS will confirm your personal details, information about the course you will be studying, tuition fees and how much you have paid along with information on how we have made an assessment on your previous qualifications and English language ability to confirm that you are eligible for a CAS. You will need to input the CAS reference number on the visa application form to allow UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to access the information. If there are any discrepancies between the information that you put on your application to the CAS statement that is sent to you then your application may be refused.

If you are starting a new course with the University then your CAS will be issued by International Admissions. If you require a CAS for continuing on the same course for example repeating modules or returning from a study break then your CAS will be issued by the International Student Support Services.

  • New students to Northampton will be required to upload scans of the following documents to the Student Portal before a CAS will be issued:

    • Current Passport
    • All previous UK visas
    • UK Immigration History Form for International Applicants (Word, 24 KB)
    • Evidence of official financial and/or government sponsorship letters if applicable. (Please upload this to the Finance tile of the Student Portal)
    • Applicants from some countries will also be required to submit evidence of how they will meet the financial requirement  (living costs and unpaid tuition fees) for a Student Route Visa in the form of a bank statement. The University of Northampton checks these financial documents to minimise the risk of your documents not being approved by the UK government when you apply for your visa .
    • For students who are having their studies financed by their parents or legal guardians ,  a letter of consent from your parent or legal guardian will be required with proof of your relationship in the form of a birth certificate or certificate of adoption or a court document which names your legal guardian. Further information on maintenance requirements can be found on the UKCISA website.

Additionally, you will be required to pay a minimum tuition fee deposit of £7000 before your CAS will be issued.

International Admissions will only issue your CAS once:

    1. You have submitted the documents detailed above to the portal and they have been checked by the University; and
    2. You have paid your tuition fee deposit to the University.

Please ensure that you submit your documents and make your tuition fee payment to the University well in advance of your course start date to ensure that your CAS can be issued promptly. The University of Northampton recommends that you apply for your Student Route Visa immediately upon receipt of your CAS to ensure that you arrive in the UK in good time to enrol for your course.

The CAS is issued via the student portal and is only initiated once the student has completed the steps above and all clearance checks have been completed. Therefore, we recommend students check their student portal regularly once they have paid. Should there be a problem with your CAS or if any of the information within your CAS statement is incorrect then please contact the CAS inbox on CAS@northampton.ac.uk. Please quote your full name and student id number in your email

  • If you are already studying with us and are progressing onto a new course, for example from the Pre-sessional English Programme to BA in Business and Management, or BA in Accounting and Finance to MSc in Marketing, then you will require an unconditional offer for your new course before your CAS letter can be issued. If you are still waiting for an unconditional offer than please contact International Admissions.

In addition you will be required to pay a minimum of £7000 tuition fee deposit before your CAS will be issued. We recommend to speed up the process that you email International Admissions once you have made your payment. Please quote your full name and student id number along with evidence of your payment such as bank transfer receipt or card payment receipt.

International Admissions will only process your CAS once you have submitted the above documents and once your tuition fee payment has been received. We recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time to submit these documents and make your payment to the University well in advance of the start date of your course.

International Admissions will email you when your CAS is ready. If you are applying in the UK and have questions about the visa application process, please contact International Student Support Services. Visa workshops are also available to book. If you are applying outside of the UK, you may be required to show evidence that you are back in your home country before your CAS statement is emailed to you. If you are applying outside of the UK and there is a problem with your CAS or if any of the information within your CAS statement is incorrect then please contact International Admissions on intadmissions@northampton.ac.uk. Please quote your full name and student ID number in your email.

If you have submitted all of the above and paid your tuition fees but still haven’t received your CAS after 14 days then please contact CAS@northampton.ac.uk.

  • If you are an existing student or are returning to resume your studies at Northampton and require a CAS to continue on the same course, for example to repeat modules or resume your studies after a study break, then you will need to complete the online CAS Request Form.

International Student Support Services (ISSS) will be in contact with you within seven days after receipt of your email. The ISSS team will make an assessment on whether you are eligible for a CAS. It may be that a Standard Visitor Visa is better suited for you to complete your studies and ISSS will advise you on this. If you are worried about your visa and how you can complete your studies then please contact ISSS at iss@northampton.ac.uk for further guidance.
