Advertising students take part in a ‘Taxi Wrap’ Challenge to promote the University of Northampton

Date 16.11.2015

Advertising students from Northampton Business School have successfully completed a challenge to design and produce a full body promotional wrap on a black taxi cab to advertise their degree course and the University of Northampton by using case studies of current students.

The 16 students, who are all in their first year, have worked closely with the University’s Marketing Department on the ‘Taxi Wrap’ Challenge. They have managed all elements of the advertising campaign process from copy writing, managing a photo shoot, budget and project management to briefing the designers. The cab will carry the advertising for a year as it works around Northampton and will be hired for use at Open Days.

The taxi was officially unveiled on Tuesday 25 March at Park Campus, with students and staff invited to ‘Snap a Selfie’ with the taxi and post it on Twitter as a digital part of the campaign.

Student, Xavier Krasnicki, commented: “We are only first year students, yet we have been put face to face with a challenge that tested both our learning abilities, and our creativity. This kind of project helps us form an idea of how the industry we are interested in works. Developing a real campaign has given us the opportunity to see what our strengths and weaknesses are.”

Kardi Somerfield, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Northampton Business School, commented: “We worked hard to provide a great experience for our students, which has translated into skills they can draw upon when they get out into the workplace. This is one of the most exciting projects I have worked on so far and the students have impressed me in the way they have risen to the challenge.”

The hashtag #AdStudents will be displayed across the vehicle to give prospective students the opportunity to get in touch with current students and staff on Twitter.
