Date 2.06.2017
2.06.2017After approaching luxury leather company Pittards to help with her Graduate Fashion Week catwalk collection, recent graduate Alice Chambers impressed the directors so much, she landed a job with the business as a Design and Development Assistant at its offices in Somerset.
Alice, 21 from Peterborough, studied BA (Hons) Fashion at the University of Northampton and graduated in 2016. During her three years she was awarded first prize for her Hunter-inspired design in the Glovers Company’s Ladies Glove Design Competition and was recently invited to a fashion show at Amity University in India where some of her final collection were showcased.
Working at Pittards Alice has lots of different roles and responsibilities, including leading third party customers from briefing to design through to finished product. She has also been involved in designing new products and developing existing products against set briefs for Pittards’ main range and for the outlet store.
She said: “One of my main tasks is pattern making, so it’s been great coming from a fashion background as I have learned how to pattern cut for accessories and handbags. I’ve also been able to improve my sewing skills and learn new techniques through sampling new developments and designs through manufacturing.
“I am now going to start working more closely with the tannery to understand the process that the leather goes through from start to finish which is very exciting.”
