Community partnership between UON and NTFC in the running for prestigious national award

Date 7.04.2025

The partnership between the University of Northampton (UON) and Northampton Town Football Club (NTFC) has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award as part of the Academic Employability Awards.

The Academic Employability Awards recognises outstanding contributions from academics across the UK and Republic of Ireland in embedding employability within higher education.

This year’s awards attracted an overwhelming response, with hundreds of high-quality submissions showcasing the innovative and impactful ways universities are equipping students with the skills needed for the evolving world of work – and the University of Northampton found itself shortlisted alongside 43 Higher Education institutions.

Northampton Town Football Club (NTFC) and the University of Northampton have been nominated for the Employer and Community Partnerships award, which is awarded for collaborations with external partners that bring significant employability value to students and benefits to the wider community and/or economy.

On the news of the shortlisting, the University of Northampton’s Head of Science, Scott Bradley said: “I don’t think most people realise the full extent to which the University and Northampton Town Football Club work together to advance shared objectives, such as improving community health and wellbeing, providing educational opportunities, and contributing to the development of a more equal and inclusive society.

“UON x NTFC is far more than just a commercial partnership. Both organisations are committed to creating opportunities for young people to develop the specialist knowledge, practical skills, personal qualities and professional networks needed to enhance both employability and social mobility.

“I am delighted that we have been shortlisted for the AGCAS Employer and Community Partnership award as it provides recognition for all the behind-the-scenes work – across both organisations – that goes into enriching the student experience and creating opportunities for young people that can help transform their lives and the lives of others in the local community.”

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 24 April 2025, held at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, London.
