Date 22.05.2019
22.05.2019The University of Northampton’s 2019 Degree Show gives the public the chance to view the work of the next generation of creative talent.
One of the biggest events in the University’s calendar, it showcases the culmination of years of hard work from final year students studying creative and design courses, from Photography to Fashion, Fine Art to Games Art.
Open to the public, the week-long show often attracts art collectors who are keen to scout out the work of up-and-coming talent, and industry professionals looking to snap up the very best soon-to-be graduates.
The Degree Show commences with a special opening evening, on Friday 7 June, which includes prize giving and entertainment, while students will be on hand to introduce their work to visitors.
The Fashion department will also host a Salon Show, with 16 models showing off the work of 32 students on the Fashion, Textiles for Fashion and Footwear and Accessories courses.
The show then continues from Saturday 8 to Friday 14 June.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology, John Sinclair, said: “The Degree Show represents the culmination of our students’ studies and is a marvellous showcase for the talents of our degree-level and HND students.
“Visitors to the show will encounter a wide range of displays and artefacts: many beautiful, some challenging, all thought-provoking.
“I hope that they will be as impressed as I have been in the past with the breadth of inspiration and the dedication of our wonderful students and the support they have received from their tutors.
“Fine Art work will be displayed in the spacious surroundings of the studios at our St George’s Avenue site. However, this year also represents the first opportunity for many visitors to experience our new environment at Waterside Campus, which will host the work of our Fashion and Design students. At both sites, I am confident that our students will maintain the show’s tradition of excellence”.
Subjects which will be showcased in the Creative Hub at Waterside Campus include Architectural Technology, Fashion, Textiles, Footwear and Accessories, Graphic Communication, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography and Product Design.
Fine Art and Fine Art Painting and Drawing will be exhibited in the Walgrave building, at the University’s St George’s Avenue site.
The Degree Show opening evening takes place on Friday 7 June, from 6.45pm. It is then open daily from Saturday 8 to Friday 14 June, 10am to 4pm daily.
