A round up of mentions of our students, staff and the University over the past week.

Associate Professor Cal Cooper gave his expert opinion and talked about his parapsychology research for the BBC Radio podcast Uncanny. The episode looked at the case of ‘Matthew’ a soldier who had a difficult relationship with his grandmother, right up until her death and if her spirit saves him from dying in the years that follow.

Professor Sian Davies-Vollum, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology, spoke to News Ghana about research she is working on to develop framework to supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for solutions to protect over 90 lagoons in the country.

Lecturer in esports Lucy Zhu was the latest academic for BBC Northampton’s Sunday School (starts at 1hr and 32mins) about her role at UON and ‘teach a lesson’ about her profession to presenter Akylah Rodriguez.

Second year students from the Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Stage and Screen course are hosting a fundraising event to provide real hair wigs for children who are suffering, or have suffered, with hair loss, as reported by the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

Coronation Quiche was the official dish to mark the Coronation of King Charles III and BBC Northampton’s Breakfast team had a competition to see who could make the best one. Visiting Professor of Nursing Steve O’Brien was part of the judging panel.

Journalism students reported on some of the protests during the Coronation and were mentioned in a Huffington Post article.

Local elections were held last week, and the early votes showed Labour making some gains. Senior Lecturer in Journalism Kate Ironside spoke to BBC Leicester’s Ady Dayman about what those early votes meant. Listen again here (clip expired).
