Life changing decisions made with University Clearing Hub busy as ever

Date 15.08.2024

There’s still time,’ is the message from the University of Northampton (UON) after it began to offer hundreds of people the chance of a university education through clearing.

On the day that A-Level students received their results, 400 academics, students, and staff at UON were on the phones taking calls from those who did not get the results they had hoped for, and many who had not applied to University through UCAS but changed their minds after seeing their results.

James Seymour, UON’s Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment said: “It was a big day for students of all ages receiving their results, and some life changing decisions were being made. This is where training for important professions starts, where teachers, police officers, nurses, designers, lawyers and scientists begin their careers.

“But if you didn’t get what you were hoping for, please don’t panic. We have experienced academics on hand to guide you through the process, explain your options and support your application.”

Dr Anthony Stepniak entered higher education through clearing and is now Senior Lecturer in Media and Culture Theory. He was one of those helping the next generation find a place through clearing. He said: “I called the University of Northampton, had a fantastic experience on the phone and came to study here.

“Years later I’m working at the University, I’m a PhD, that phone call completely changed the trajectory of my career, Clearing had a massive impact on me.”

The University’s Clearing hotline – 01604 214808 – will remain open until early October, alternatively, visit UON’s Clearing webpage. Some courses will fill up fast, so those thinking of university are encouraged to act promptly.

Over 1,000 prospective students, family and friends will visit the University’s Waterside campus for an Open Day on Saturday 17 August, and anyone is welcome to attend.
