Podiatry academic gets a Gold Award for Excellence

A University of Northampton (UON) academic hit the gold standard after being placed on a national list of dedicated healthcare professionals.

For the Inaugural CAHPO Gold Award for Excellence 2024, Professor Suzanne Rastrick, OBE Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) for NHS England identified the individuals who have strengthened and supported the work she or team have undertaken over the last ten years.

The Gold Award acknowledges, rewards and celebrates excellence, where a significant, outstanding and exceptional contribution has been made by individual members of the AHP community in England in their work; consistently leading by example, demonstrating strong NHS values and high levels of commitment and quality throughout their role.

Of the 22 AHPs Professor Rastrick named, University of Northampton Senior Lecturer in Podiatry and Prescribing Krishna Gohil.

Krishna has worked as part of the allied health profession as a podiatrist since qualifying in 2001 and has lectured at UON since 2018.

Among Krishna’s many achievements, last year she received her second medical Fellowship after being named a Fellow of the Royal College of Podiatry for positively impacting clinical standards, development of national guidance and improving public perception of the profession (her first was from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow).

Krishna’s most recent clinical publications are ‘A clinicians guide to leadership and management’ and she is a co-author of a new vascular disease module aims to help healthcare professionals understanding lower limb anatomy and physiology.

Krishna says: “Allied Health Professionals across the board are committed, innovative and passionate people, so I am honoured and deeply humbled to be one of a small number to receive this award. In the spirit of reciprocation, I would like to thank Professor Rastrick for her leadership and guidance and the support of my colleagues and mentors who’ve been with me every step of the way.”
