Staff create video to highlight services for students

Date 20.07.2020

With the University campus closed for face-to-face activities, students might forget about the additional teams and services that are available to them, such as those provided by Student Services.

The team (including Support and Advice, Counselling and Mental Health, ASSIST, Financial Guidance, International Student Support and Residential Life) have been working closely to provide joined-up support for students.

Although not all of the team are back at Waterside yet, some recorded a video reminding students what is still on offer and to ensure they don’t feel alone or that the University had stopped working when the pandemic struck.

From virtual mental health and counselling drop-ins and telephone appointments with financial advisers, their ‘online door’ is still open.

The team also wanted to highlight some of the changes to the way they are working. The Financial Guidance team have spent the past few months delivering the COVID-19 Hardship fund that was set up to help support students effected financially by the pandemic.

Also, the Student Services Facebook and Instagram accounts have been further developed and updated regularly with key information about all of the ways students can access support at the University.

Anna Quinn, Student Support and Advice Manager: “For Student Services staff, providing personalised, one-to-one support for students is the most important part of our roles, so the pandemic and campus closure has been a big adjustment for many of us.

“I have been so impressed by the commitment and dedication of staff and colleagues within Student Services, who have continued to look for new and innovative ways of reaching out to students to provide the same level of guidance and support.”
