Student Lucy is penny wise and pound happy after calling UON’s Clearing hotline

A student is ‘on the money’ to complete her degree thanks to the University of Northampton’s Clearing team’s sound financial advice.

Lucy Brown – originally from Tamworth, Staffordshire – has just finished the first year of her degree in Podiatry. But before she stepped foot in UON’s respected Podiatry Clinic, she had a few concerns about cashflow after she started her course.

Lucy explains why she settled on UON: “I wanted to stay within the Midlands, and University of Northampton was the right place, easily commutable and with a long-established Podiatry programme.

“I came here for an open day, and the campus looked lovely, but the big draw was the clinic, located just up the road and in the grounds of Northampton General Hospital. It was immediately apparent this would be one of the best bits of the course; I couldn’t wait to get started.”

But the brakes were nearly pulled on Lucy studying for her dream career – she had concerns about how to support herself financially.

Lucy continues: “I had been accepted onto the course, but I still had questions as I was worried about the finance, whether it would come in on time, and how that all worked.

“The Clearing team came across exactly as the University advertises – friendly, and they sounded like real people who genuinely wanted to calm my fears. Everything was answered and sorted in a straightforward and efficient way.

“I felt reassured; it was great to put the phone down knowing I was going to hit the ground running in just a few weeks’ time.”

Now, Lucy enjoys every moment of her studies, saying: “I love all aspects of the Podiatry degree*! It’s such a good course, and the lecturers are friendly and super-approachable.

“My advice for anyone on A-level results is to make that call! The team are there to help and will not pressure you to do things you aren’t sure of or don’t want to do.

“There are lots of options, and there’s no judgement if you go through Clearing. In September, you all start at the same point as part of the big UON family.”
