Students score hair raising grand total for charity close to their hearts
Date 26.05.2023
26.05.2023A team of students have proved they’re a cut above the rest by fundraising for a charity close to their hearts.
Tia Bush, Kelsey Henson, Polly Barker, Kirsty Donnerstag, Rebecca Cassettari, Ojas Kaur and Amy Barnes – who are all in their first and second years of studies in Hair, Make-Up and Prosthetics for Stage and Screen – have put their artistic skills to good use and raise a grand total of £767.71 for the Little Princess Trust, a charity dedicated to providing real hair wigs for children who are suffering, or have suffered, with hair loss.
From 1pm until 5pm on Friday (May 19), visitors were invited to let their hair down for a great cause as students offered hair cutting, styling and makeup – as well as face painting, activities for children and refreshments.
Tia Bush, who organised the event, said: “You don’t realise how much hair matters until you lose it.
“Me and my course mates wanted to incorporate the skills we’ve learnt as part of our course in a way that will have a positive real-world impact. On the day, there was such a vibrant atmosphere, and we’re so grateful for the generosity of those who came along and supported the event.
“It costs the Little Princess Trust £550 to make a wig for a child, and we’re so pleased to have raised money that will go towards such an amazing cause. It’s a wonderful feeling to have played a part in supporting the charity.”
Deputy Head of Subject: Culture – Media, Film and Special Effects, Anthony Stepniak added: “I’m incredibly proud of our students for the event they held and the money they’ve raised for such a worthwhile cause.
“This event was organised entirely by the students, from managing the logistics of booking the space to getting the word out there via social media and radio. Its success is a true testament to their hard work and genuine passion for the cause.”
