Title-winning Cobblers are set for victory parade around the town
Date 28.04.2016
28.04.2016Northampton Town Football Club will be marking their incredible League Two title win with an open top-bus parade around the town on Sunday 8 May.
The Cobblers overcame off-field problems earlier this season to romp to the title – they are currently 12 points clear of second-placed Accrington Stanley, with two games still to play – as they enjoy life under the stewardship of new chairman Kelvin Thomas.
The University has been the club’s principal partner since 2013, when it became the Cobblers’ main shirt sponsor – a deal that was renewed for a further three years in February.
The partnership means the University’s students can benefit from internships with the club, work experience and participate in takeover days at Sixfields stadium.
Vice Chancellor, Nick Petford, said: “We are exceptionally proud to be Northampton Town Football Club’s Principal Club Partner, and to have been with them every step of the way this season. Despite difficult times off the pitch that are now behind them, their success this season has been an inspiration.
“Earlier this year we signed a new partnership agreement with the Cobblers which will not only see our name proudly displayed across players’ shirts and around the pitch at Sixfields for three more years, but enable us to provide real-life work experience in the highly sought after environment of professional football through internships and student takeover days.”
The University will also be using Sixfields as a venue for several events – including hosting its Varsity sports tournament in 2017 – in addition to inviting experts from the club’s coaching staff to give fitness masterclasses to the institutions sports teams.
Full details of the victory parade, which starts at 4pm from Sixfields, are on the Cobblers’ website.
