Trans- States conference to delve into occultism, mysticism and shamanism in today’s culture
Date 15.07.2019
15.07.2019Tickets are now on sale for a conference which will explore occultism, mysticism, shamanism and other esoteric and spiritual practices in contemporary ‘occulture’.
Trans- States: The Art of Revelation takes place at the University of Northampton on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 September.
A packed programme of guest speakers has been put together for the second edition of the conference, which will build on the success of the first, which was held in 2016 and featured globally renowned author, Alan Moore. Watch his keynote speech, below.
This year’s line-up includes keynotes from writer, actor and director, Daisy Campbell, professor of philosophy and religious thought, Jeffrey Kripal and professor of history and hermetic philosophy, Wouter Hanegraaff.
Conference organiser, Cavan McLaughlin, said: “In an era when witches around the world join forces to cast spells of binding and protection to influence global politics, when Neopaganism inspires and informs ecological actions like Extinction Rebellion, and the recent Guggenheim exhibition of Hilma af Klint’s esoteric art is their ‘most-attended exhibition of all time’, it is abundantly clear that occult, spiritual and esoteric ideas and practices are having an enormous impact on contemporary culture. It is an area of huge interest to both the academy and the general public. Trans- States’ great success has been in offering a rich programme that appeals equally to both.”
