UN alumna named Solicitor of the Year by Northamptonshire Law Society
Date 12.11.2015
12.11.2015A local solicitor and University of Northampton alumna, Sarah Canning, was named Solicitor of the Year at last week’s Northamptonshire Law Society’s annual awards.
Sarah is the Head of Litigation at Franklins Solicitors and works across both Northampton and Milton Keynes offices specialising in commercial litigation, property litigation, debt recovery and regulatory prosecutions. She studied Law, Business Studies and Sport at the University when it was Nene College and joined Franklins in 1992, progressing to partnership in 1997.
She is also the Chair of the Northamptonshire branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and was responsible for the development of the IoD’s East Midlands Young Directors Forum. She is a Board Member of Northamptonshire’s Enterprise Partnership and an independent member of the University of Northampton’s Audit Committee.
Sarah commented: “I was thrilled to be nominated and it was a privilege to receive the award, particularly with two of my former lecturers in the audience. I attended Nene College, now the University of Northampton, in the late 1980s and my combined degree has been beneficial in enabling me to apply legal training and knowledge with an awareness of commercial realities.”
Brendan Greene, Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Northampton, commented: “It was a great pleasure to be at the Northamptonshire Law Society annual dinner when Sarah Canning was presented with the award for Solicitor of the Year. The University’s Law Department is very proud of Sarah who has received this award from her fellow lawyers. It was also a lovely surprise that she remembered her old teachers; myself and Mick Sumpter!”
The awards took place on Thursday 24 September at the Northampton Marriot Hotel.
