University of Northampton’s new home in line for another industry award

18.11.2019The University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus is in the running for another award.
The campus, which opened in September 2018, is a regional finalist in the 2020 Civic Trust Awards, which recognise excellence in the built environment.
The university will find out if Waterside has been selected by judges for a commendation or national award, on Monday 9th December.
Becky Bradshaw, Director of Estates & Campus Services, said: “I’m delighted Waterside has been shortlisted as a regional finalist for the national 2020 Civic Trust Awards, receiving recognition not only for its architecture and environmental design, but also the positive cultural, social, economic and environmental benefits the new campus has brought to the local community. We look forward to the Civic Trust Award Winners announcement in December and hope we can add this to the long list of accolades Waterside has already secured.”
The £330m town centre campus has received a number of industry awards and nominations in little more than a year, including the following:
- Royal Society of Chartered Surveyors Design through Innovation Award
- Construction Project of the Year Award at the East Midlands Property Awards
- University Impact Initiative of the Year Award from the Association of University Directors of Estates
- Highly commended in both the Inspiring Learning Spaces and Innovation in Delivering Value categories at the Education Estates Awards
- 2019 Creative Re-use Award from the Association for Industrial Archaeology for the Engine Shed redevelopment
- The Engine Shed won the Architects’ Journal Retrofit Award for Higher & Further Education
- The University named Client of the Year at the Estates Education Awards
- Shortlisted for the Midlands Business Award for Corporate Commitment to the Community
- Becket’s Bridge which links the campus to the town was shortlisted for an Architects’ Journal Architecture Award.
