Date 27.07.2016
27.07.2016The University of Northampton has exciting plans to build a state-of-the-art new Campus in the heart of Northampton’s Waterside Enterprise Zone.
Following a series of public consultation events showcasing the academic building designs to local residents, the University has submitted a detailed planning application to Northampton Borough Council.
Featuring flexible learning and teaching spaces for the use of innovative technologies, alongside a vibrant mix of leisure and retail facilities, the new campus location and designs focus on the University’s aims of providing an excellent experience for students, staff and the wider community. These outstanding facilities will attract students from Northampton and around the world to study, work and live within the Town.
Feedback from the pre-application consultation events, showed strong support for the University’s relocation as well as support for the academic building designs themselves.
Vice Chancellor, Nick Petford, said: “This planning submission is another step in the development of our plans to relocate to the new Waterside Campus. These academic buildings will be an impressive place for our students and staff to learn, teach, research and network.
“This is a hugely exciting development for both the University and for Northampton it will inject over £330million investment into Northampton to develop the existing brown field site.”
Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: “The new University of Northampton campus will be right at the cutting edge of education, which is vital for the town’s businesses to thrive.
“The council has already supported the outline application and sought greater means to help finance it, which demonstrates our belief that such a facility is needed. The detailed application will be considered by the Planning Committee early next year.”
Should the planning application be successful, infrastructure and building works will be scheduled to commence in 2015, completing the campus ready for students joining the University in September 2018.”
