Vice Chancellor joins panel for CSR business debate

Date 11.11.2015

The event considered the impact of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review on local businesses.

Organised by the South Northants Enterprise Board (SNEB) in association with South Northamptonshire Council, and supported by The University of Northampton and Business Link, the event at Towcester Racecourse attracted over 70 guests from businesses and industry across the county.

Professor Petford was forthright in his views on how the University already supports local and regional businesses, and encouraged delegates to be direct in their proposals on what was needed in the current economic climate from the higher education institution.

He also stated how the University is a business in its own right which contributes £200 million to the regional economy every year. He further added support to a proposal from the floor that the University and other business leaders review opportunities for the local procurement of goods and services wherever possible.

Also on the prestigious industry panel were Kevin Ackerman of Towcester Racecourse, Bill Wright of Parkway, Graham Goss of Haines Watts, Sarah Canning of Franklins Solicitors/IOD, Richard Phillips of Silverstone Circuit, Tim Bagshaw of Northamptonshire Enterprise Ltd, Rupert Fordham of South Northamptonshire Council and Stephen Smith of East Midlands Business/Business Link.

Compere for the event was Martin Lawrence, Chair of South Northants Enterprise Board, with an opening address from Mary Clarke, Leader of South Northamptonshire Council.
