Centre for Global Economic and Social Development (GESD) Blog

With members from across three continents and strategic partnerships with leading research institutions, organisations, and policymakers, the Centre for Global Economic and Social Development (GESD) brings together expertise from a variety of areas within UON and beyond. Therefore, we are uniquely positioned to help institutions and businesses engage with international partners, and to produce valuable research with demonstrable impact as well as cutting-edge consultancy. We work locally and globally. In fact, part of our strategy is to explore whether local projects lend themselves to international ones. Our multi-regional expertise enables us to engage in comparative projects too. We think laterally about solutions and are keen to learn from developing places as well as share our own expertise. We believe development is always about shared processes. We recognise that there are many different pathways to development, and that economic growth is also about what that growth achieves for the wider society and culture.

GESD provides an inclusive, multidisciplinary environment supporting and sharing research and innovation. We have three key special interest groups – Peace and Development (PD), Alternative Pathways to Development (AP), and International Business and Development (IBD).
