Conference – Globalization in the time of the Anthropocene (2023)

An international conference with keynote speaker, Professor Geir Sigurdsson, from the University of Iceland, opening the conference with a lecture entitled ‘Confucian Confusions: Some Over- and Underemphasized Philosophical Aspects of China’s Development’.

The centre held an international conference across Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31 May, 2023. Keynote speaker, Professor Geir Sigurdsson, from the University of Iceland, opened the conference with a lecture entitled ‘Confucian Confusions: Some Over- and Underemphasized Philosophical Aspects of China’s Development’. There were panels across the two days on ‘Nature, Ecology and the Anthropocene’, ‘Globalization and cultural phenomena’, ‘Commodities, consumption, and production in the Anthropocene’, and ‘Migrants and cultural politics in a globalized world’. The conference was concluded with a special talk on ‘The impact of Climate change on human trafficking in East and Northeast India’, with speaker, Nick Low, British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata and Associate member of the centre.
