The AI Literacy Imperative, What Everyone Needs to Know

On the 19 January 2024 we had an examination of key aspects of AI literacy. Together we can all improve our capabilities and be better ready for the future.

On the 19 January 2024, nearly 50 UON staff and students were treated to a presentation by Brent Anders. He covered some of the key issues that we should be aware of when considering Artificial Intelligence in Education at the current time. Noting that this is an exceptionally fast-moving area, Brent discussed some of the foundational knowledge around AI Literacy including awareness, capability, knowledge and critical thinking.

One attendee noted:

‘It was incredibly useful and has got me exploring what I need to do in order to embrace AI.’

The session was supported by a Padlet which allowed attendees to raise comments and questions which would be discussed in the session.

Brent Anders Bio:

Brent A. Anders, Ph.D. has a Doctorates degree in education and a Master’s degree in instructional technology. He currently works as the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as a Lecturer teaching Professional Communication at the American University of Armenia.

Anders has also done multiple public speaking events throughout the US and other parts of the world, authoring books, research articles, and blog posts dealing with educational methodologies, online learning, and educational technology. Anders Is now heavily focusing on generative artificial intelligence, what it means for education and the imperative need for everyone to develop AI literacy skills. Anders’ most recent book “The AI Literacy Imperative: Empowering Instructors & Students” is now available on Amazon.
