Alumni PGCE Bursary Award

PGCE Bursary

If you studied your undergraduate degree* with the University of Northampton and are enrolling on to a full-time PGCE Primary QTS 5-11 or PGCE Primary QTS 3-7 **course in 2024/25 then you will be eligible for the University of Northampton Alumni PGCE Bursary Award. This will be a £500 cash payment that will not have to be repaid and does not affect the payment of a student’s maintenance loans.

Tuition fees for all full-time PGCE courses starting in September 2024 will be £9,250. Students from England will be able to apply for a tuition fee loan to cover their fees from Student Finance England. (Students from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland should contact their home government for details of any support available to them)

PGCE students can apply for a tuition and maintenance loan in the same way as an undergraduate student. For more information on how to apply please visit the gov.uk website.

There is no separate application procedure for this bursary and the University will identify eligible students from its records. Students who qualify for this bursary may also qualify for the University of Northampton income-assessed bursary, the Northampton Bursary.

Payment and qualifying for the bursary

The bursary will be paid in two instalments on the following dates:

  • £250 on 17 March 2025
  • £250 on 30 May 2025

To qualify for a 50% bursary payment on 17 March 2025 students must be fully enrolled and attending their course full-time on the first day of term two and liable for 50% of their fees at this point. To qualify for the second 50% bursary payment on  2025 students must be fully enrolled and attending their course full-time at the start of term three and therefore liable for 100% of their fees at this point. Students who have withdrawn from their course before these dates will not receive the relevant 50% payment.

Payment will be made through the Student Loans Company to the bank account provided for maintenance loan payments (if you are a self-funding student we will contact you asking you to provide your bank details).
