Welcome and Induction Session

This is your induction timetable with online sessions starting on Monday 19 August. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact induction organiser Lucy Zhu: Lucy.Zhu@northampton.ac.uk.

  • Monday 19 August

In this welcome session, I will introduce our BSc esports degree including our esports education principles, active blended learning at UON, esports industry network, your first year modules, assessment formats, Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) system, esports student activities and opportunities, and answer your questions. I will also provide information about life at university, facilities, student services and supports.

Equipment

You are not required to purchase any mandatory kit or textbooks to start this course. As a heavily practical based course students will require sportwear for many modules. We will provide all students with one of our course branded t-shirts, and students can purchase further course branded kit from Kit Locker. While purchasing this is not mandatory, we do encourage students to consider an additional pair of tracksuit bottoms/leggings for circumstances when completing work based learning activities and representing both our course and institution.

Additionally, at the start of term you will be given a choice of certain offers (i.e. free laptop, £500 off accommodation etc.) we would highly recommend and advise you to pick the laptop offer because you will be required throughout the three years of your degree to use different software. Please note that it is not a gaming PC – but it can support Riot Games at least!

Additional preparation

We would advise you to create a social media profile (Discord, Twitter, LinkedIn etc) as this can help you with joining the course DC, placement positions, jobs and future employment. You do not have to do this, but it will help. You will need to make sure you have provided a profile picture on your account and a title explaining that you are a ‘University of Northampton BSc Esports Student’. Please ensure that all social media activity is kept professional.
