Welcome to Student Futures

Student Futures is a sector leader team of specialists who enable UON students to achieve their personal aspirations and career goals. We support you with gaining work experience and connecting with employers, developing your skills and attributes, and ensuring you have a competitive edge in the job market.

UON graduates go on to build successful careers in a variety of fields, some through their dream job, others through setting up their own businesses or social enterprises, others through further study and volunteering. We understand that your journey is as unique as you are and that’s why we’re here to support you in building your own bespoke path to success.

We make a unique contribution to UON’s dedication to Social Impact by supporting and inspiring students to develop as forward-thinking graduates, capable of making a positive social, environmental and economic difference.

What does Student Futures do?


    • Through our in-house recruitment agency Unitemps, you can gain work experience whilst earning to support you through your studies – this includes being a student ambassador.
    • Social Impact Internships offer students paid internships with organisations who create positive social impact
    • Placements: many of our academic programmes offer practical work-based learning opportunities.
    • You can achieve an UON Employability Award which develops and recognises the skills and knowledge which improve employability.
    • An extensive programme of events including our Annual Careers Expo, Industry Specific Careers Fairs, Employer Spotlights, employability workshops and many more!
    • Access to volunteering opportunities to help you gain valuable new skills and experiences.
    • We offer practice interviews and a chance to participate in mock assessment centres.
  • Student Futures provides the following information, advice and guidance to students and to our graduates – you can access these services for your whole life after graduation!

    • One-to-one careers advice and guidance with a Careers Development Consultant, including help with career decision making, how to develop your employability and how to gain work experience.
    • Drop-ins for your quick queries
    • Help and information on finding a part-time job
    • Online resources and access to our Student Futures Portal
    • Advice and information on volunteering
    • Advice, information and guidance on getting jobs, placements and internships
  • We’re sure you’ll graduate with the skills and knowledge you need to take your career to the next level. But if you’re not employed within six months after graduating, we’ll give you six months of free support from our certified careers development consultants, followed by a paid intern for those who’re still looking.
