I chose to study Fashion Design [now called Fashion, Textiles, Footwear and Accessories] at the University of Northampton as the campus facilities looked amazing and I felt confident that I could learn what I needed to there. During my studies, I enjoyed the course facilities and the excellent tutoring I received.

I feel that my studies enabled my career development as they helped me understand the importance of presenting my ideas in a professional way, as well as how to build professional networks with people already in the industry. In particular, the skills I gained on my degree that are most useful in my current role are networking, presentation of ideas, confidence and sewing.

Currently, I’m working on my brand while learning more about shoemaking, leather and other craftsmanship methods. I’m aware there are going to be different types of challenges along the way -financial pressures, time management and balancing my work life with my passion and health is a lot to do at the same time, so being resilient is key.

The advice I’d give to undergraduates interested in this career path would be that when you realise how much you love something, don’t let it go – no matter how hard and impossible it seems. Dreams only end when you end them by lacking confidence in yourself and in your capabilities.

My time at UON was a very enlightening experience. I learned a lot, including filling some gaps I had on public speaking and confidence, and I met people that shaped my skills.
