Bethany Cox - Elite Athlete Scholarship Programme
Football
Bethany Cox is a football player currently playing for the Northampton Town women’s Development team and is pushing for the first team.
She was persuaded to come to the University of Northampton because of the emphasis on sports:
“I came to the Open Day at the University and realised that they were very much into their sport,” she said.
Cox is originally from Milton Keynes where she started playing football for her local club:
“I played for City Belles from 12-16, while playing for Northampton Town Development Centre from 13-16.”
The difference between the Development and first team is that the Development team trains once a week with their games taking place during half terms.
Cox heard about the Elite Athlete Scholarship Programme through one of her lecturers – she is studying Sport Coaching:
“I’ve already done some coaching locally, so it made me decide that I want to do it at university.”
She is playing for the University football team and is really enjoying playing the sport as well as the social aspect of participating in sports at university.
One of her best memories in the sport so far is winning a cup for the Northampton Town Development team in a close game that went to penalties.
Bethany has written more about her positive experiences of studying at UON.
