I chose to study English at the University of Northampton because of the expert research-active lecturers and the diverse range of subject matter. I felt this would give me a strong knowledge base for progressing onto postgraduate study.

The aspect of the course I enjoyed the most was that the course lecturers were incredibly supportive and made the learning environment safe, familiar and engaging.

Undoubtedly, my time studying at UON has helped my career and personal development by enabling me to gain huge amounts of specialist subject knowledge, however the transferrable skills and confidence that the University has fostered within me will, I’m sure, have an equally valuable and lasting impact upon my personal development.

Aside from my studies, I was also a Student Representative for my course. The training and experiences offered within this role improved my confidence in meeting scenarios, and I was even provided with opportunities to chair and minute meetings.

Having graduated from UON, I’ve now entered postgraduate study as I’d like to advance myself within the academic field of literature. However, I appreciate that this may become difficult with universities currently changing the structure and availability of roles.

The skills and knowledge/understanding gained on my degree that are most useful to me during my master’s study are communication, time management, and self-confidence.

If I could give any advice to undergraduates interested in this career path, it would be to believe in yourself, find your passion, and let the University of Northampton take you there.

My time at UON provided a warm, fun, nurturing environment to learn and grow.
