Your University Journey

Why did you choose your course at UON?

Word of mouth. Some online pen pals praised the Film and Screen Studies course at UON.

What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most and why?

The lecturers were ten out of ten. The facilities and the coursework were also great.

Did you do any extra-curricular activities while at UON?

Yes, I was in the Pool Society.

Your Career

How do you think your studies have helped your career or personal development?

Film & Screen Studies has cultivated my critical thinking and analysis in visual medias. It also helped me gain research skills that I now use every day at work.

On the Media Production course, I learned about editing programmes, techniques and ideas that I now use for producing YouTube videos, as well as very valuable camera production skills.

Describe your career progression so far, and any plans you have for the future. Are there any particular hurdles you may face?

I plan to progress in the field of New Media (i.e. YouTube, TikTok, etc) and eventually become a video content creator.

Which, if any, skills and knowledge/understanding gained on your degree are most useful in your current role?

Researching, editing and visual media understanding.

Your Advice

In one sentence, what advice would you give to undergraduates interested in this career path or anything you wish you had known earlier?

Begin creating content early, to (probably) fail early, before eventually succeeding in finding your audience/niche.

In ten words, or less how would you summarise your UON experience?

Insightful and cultivating.
