Social Work and Social Care


Social Workers and social care professionals deal with some of the most vulnerable people in society. This hugely rewarding career offers a variety of roles in the sector, giving you an opportunity to explore different career paths. Our Social Work programme is approved by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), and upon the completion of your course, you can apply for a registration with the HCPC.

Our programmes can pave the way for you to become a registered Social Worker or a Health & Social Care professional by studying one of our Social Work or Health & Social Care Practice BA programmes at a degree level. Designed to develop your knowledge in areas of social work, applied social care and health, you will be taught by academics from a range of backgrounds and work-based experiences.

Our programmes are designed to give you an advanced knowledge of the subject area as well as practical skills needed for the profession in your chosen field. Throughout your studies you will be supported by a personal academic tutor and a placement tutor.

  • Our range of modules will provide Health, Social Care & Social Work graduates with a good foundation in preparation for their career as a Social Worker or Social Care professional. Our three-year single honours programmes at undergraduate level involve placements in a variety of health, education and social care settings.

  • All our Social Work and Social Care degrees provide excellent employment prospects to University of Northampton graduates. Once you have completed your degree in BA Social Work or MA in Social Work you’ll be able to apply to register with Social Work England.

    Previous BA Health and Social Care Practice students have worked in roles such as: Homeless Prevention Officer, Partnership Manager, Public Engagement Officer and Policy and Advocacy Officer.

  • What jobs can you get with a Health and Social Care Degree?

    There are many job opportunities after completing your Health and Social Care degree. From roles as a conflict and humanitarian advocacy adviser, public engagement advisor, fundraising leader and digital interaction advisor.

    How long is a Social Work degree?

    The BA in Social Work is a 3-year full-time programme. Our Master’s in Social Work (MA) takes 2 years to complete full-time.

    What is a Social Work Degree?

    Our Social Work Degree will teach you the skills, values and knowledge required to work in a variety of social work settings. Once you have completed your degree you’ll be able to apply to register with Social Work England and start your career as a Social Worker.
